Since being a mum, I like most new mums, may have forgotten to make time for myself. It’s inevitable when you’ve got a tiny little person who is completely dependent on you and a house to look after that making time for you slips down the list of priorities.
My new getting ready routine now consists of a shower, throwing my hair up in a bun and a quick apply of bronzer and mascara, and putting on whatever jeans and jumper I can find.
I’ve always aspired to look after my skin with a proper skincare regime – Clinque 3 Steps is what I’d tell the lady who regularly did my monthly facial at Demalogica in fear of her judging me, it didn’t matter that I probably only did it once a month relying on Simple wipes the rest of the time. And don’t even get me started on make-up. I’ve always wanted to be the girl who could transform her face with contouring, gorgeous eyeshadow and lip palettes but in truth all I own is my essentials – foundation, bronzer, eye liner and mascara.
I currently have Shellac nail polish on my toes. From August. And haven’t painted my fingernails for approximately 20 weeks.
So today I’ve made a pact with myself. I’m going to give myself 30 minutes of ‘me time’ a day. This can be spent having a bath, painting my nails, straightening my hair or reading a book (I’ve been trying to read ‘Grey’ since June and I’ve just got the new autobiography from Caroline Flack), the list is endless.
I love being a mum, genuinely it’s the best thing that’s ever happened to me, but I know I need to look after and pamper myself a bit more. I’m not talking spa days every week but just small things I can do when Harley’s gone to bed that will leave me feeling much less frazzled. After all I am an aspiring yummy mummy.
